Frequently Asked Questions

A gentle guide to malas, Reiki, healing, and intentional living.

How do I use a mala in meditation?

There are a few beautiful ways to work with a mala:

1. Mantra repetition (Japa meditation)

Hold your mala and begin at the bead next to the guru bead. Recite a mantra, affirmation, or intention for each bead, moving one bead at a time with your thumb. When you reach the guru bead, pause, reflect, or reverse direction without crossing over it.

2. Breath awareness

Use each bead as an anchor for a breath cycle — inhale, exhale, move to the next bead. This creates a grounding rhythm for calming the nervous system.

3. Intention setting practice

Before you begin, set a simple intention such as peace, clarity, love, or release. Allow each bead to carry that intention deeper into your body and field.

How does Reiki Work?

Reiki is an ancient, gentle energy healing practice that supports balance within the mind, body, and spirit. Discovered by Mikao Usui in Japan in the 1920’s- Reiki has been passed down sacred lineages for decades. Reiki is not exclusive to Japan, hands-on healing can be found all over the world across many different cultures- Egypt, India, Africa… to name a few!

Through calm, intentional energy work, Reiki may help encourage relaxation, emotional release, clarity, grounding, and a deeper sense of inner peace.

What can I expect during a Reiki session?

Every Reiki experience is unique, but many people describe feeling deeply relaxed, calm, grounded, or emotionally lighter after a session. You may notice warmth, tingling sensations, emotional release, or a peaceful meditative state as the body gently receives the energy it needs.

This depends on your personal needs and what you are moving through emotionally, physically, or spiritually. Some people benefit from regular sessions for ongoing support and balance, while others book Reiki occasionally during times of stress, healing, or life transitions. Your body and intuition often guide you toward what feels right.

Your mala is both jewellery and a sacred companion, so gentle care is important. Avoid wearing it in water or during heavy physical activity, and store it in a calm, safe space when not in use.

You may also lightly anoint the beads with natural oils, such as sandalwood oil, to honour and nourish the materials over time (available in-store).
